I am facing a difficult choice between two activities: care for my forest or build an educational storyworld that would show the dangers of nationalistic populism — currently expressed in the USA as MAGAism.
The latter option will contribute greatly to the well-being of humanity
IF I am able to get the damn storyworld editor working properly. I’ve been beating my head against the brick wall of Javascript obscurantism for three weeks now and have made slow, bloody progress.
and IF I am able to build a storyworld I consider likely to succeed. So far the design looks good but I have not accomplished much in the way of implementation because the storyworld editor is not functional
and IF the resulting storyworld really does appear to educate people in the realities
and IF I can find a number of organizations to host it on their websites. If I host it on this website, we can be certain that the MAGA people will bring it down with all manner of attacks
and IF I can convince many organizations and groups to publicize the storyworld to attract lots of players
and IF I am correct in believing that the storyworld really does educate people.
That’s a lot of ifs for a project that would easily consume a year of my time. I could use the same time to improve the resilience of my forest and give my dogs and cats lots of love and attention. This alternative would surely make the world a better place — no ifs, ands, or buts.
So, do I aim high on the chance that I might succeed, or lower my expectations to be certain of success?
